On behalf of Prisoners’ Legal Services of New York Board of Directors, we announce the appointment of Krin Flaherty as PLS’ next Executive Director. This announcement follows the move of  Karen L. Murtagh, our esteemed Executive Director of PLS for the past 17 years, into the role of Emeritus during this period of transition.  

We are deeply grateful to Karen for her extraordinary leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to incarcerated people and to this organization. It feels almost impossible to overstate her contributions to prisoners’ rights generally and PLS in particular over the past 43 years. Her legacy is embedded in the growth, strength, credibility, and impact of PLS today, and we are grateful to her for agreeing to stay on for a transitional period to support the organization as it proceeds with excitement into this next chapter.

Krin brings to the Executive Director position a deep knowledge of the work and a steadfast commitment to PLS’ mission to provide high-quality, effective legal representation and assistance to incarcerated New Yorkers.
